The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas

By John Boyne is a fictional fable. The novel is aimed at the age group of 12 plus to adults. The story is about a young boy from Berlin Germany his father is a Nazis that works for Hitler and his family leave Berlin to take up residence near the concentration camp where his father has just become commandant. Unhappy and lonely, he wanders out behind his house one day and finds Shmuel, a Jewish boy of his age. Though the barbed-wire fence of the camp separates them, the boys begin a friendship.

Characters

The main character is Bruno a 9-year-old boy from Berlin, Bruno is a smart and innocent. Bruno is a lovable child but he is a little selfish because He is smart little boy but I think that he is a bit selfish because all he thinks about is himself.  Shmuel and Bruno have a great relationship with each other, they talk to each other and they never fight so that is a really good thing. They have things in common also such as same birthday, same age and very similar personalities.

Themes

Friendship and family are both big themes in this book, Bruno has made a big friendship with his friend Shmuel. His parents do not allow him to go near the big fence. Aspects in the Boy in Striped pyjamas are Lies, Deceit, Race, Violence, Friendship, Warfare, the Holocaust.

Overall Opinion On the Book

The people that would like this book will be kids 12 to adult because it has a little bit of things that little kids will not be able to watch. The book was ok but not the best books that I have red. The star rating out of ten will be six out of ten.
